THE STEP FOR SUSTAINABILITY
COMFORTABLE BEDS, SEA AIR AND A WARM WELCOME ARE ALWAYS INCLUDED
Focus areas:
-
The sea and the marine environment
-
As little unnecessary environmental impact as possible
-
Good for both residents and visitors
-
More visitors when it is not full
-
More full-time jobs and a more robust business
There is an awful lot to do in each area, but it is only by taking small steps at a time that we can manage a positive long-term change. As our business is located on an island, the sea means a lot to us. We will be focused on taking advantage of all the opportunities that the marine environment offers while minimizing our negative impact.
We strive to keep the restaurant open even during the off-season so that Käringön's permanent population will have somewhere to meet regularly. The response has been enormously positive and we feel that it contributes to good cohesion.
Ongoing improvement projects
Visitors to Käringön usually stay 1 – 2 nights. Together with the destination, we have started work aimed at getting guests to extend their stay, which is good from a sustainability perspective. To achieve this, we work to develop the range of activities and improve the marketing of activities.
Our pub - Käringöns Brygga aims to increase the proportion of local food on the menu. We collaborate with Käringön's local fishermen who deliver first-class ingredients to our restaurant. We also collaborate with Karolina Martinsson and Stefan Hagerling, who are pioneers in the recovery of seaweed and beach plants.
We annually inventory chemical substances used in the business. Among other things, the review has led to us replacing cleaning products which, according to the product information, "can have harmful long-term effects on aquatic organisms".
We offer a number of activities for visitors to Käringön, for example fishing trips. In addition to the experiences the guests get, we also want to convey knowledge about the state of the sea. Collaborations with other organizations and actors enable us to convey correct information. For example, we collaborate with the organization Strandstädarna and offer companies an opportunity to contribute to clean beaches around Käringön.
We have been part of Nores for a year now, a member-owned purchasing organization with extensive experience from the hotel and restaurant industry.
Nores is based on non-profit where the surplus goes back to the owners. Nores places high demands on its suppliers, partners and themselves in order to use resources, people and the environment in the best possible way. The agreement means that we follow their supplier guidelines, which include, among other things, working environment, forced labour, child labour, equality, environment, animal ethics, consideration and corruption.
